Richard Smith is the UNC’s candidate for Trincity/Maloney and a newcomer to national politics, bringing with him a background rooted in discipline, service, and community engagement.

A former Corporal in the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, Smith draws on years of military training and leadership. During his service, he deepened his understanding of national security by earning a Certificate in Criminology from the University of the West Indies— equipping him with both practical experience and academic insight into the causes and solutions to crime.

Following his military career, Smith remained active in his community, volunteering in youth mentorship programs and supporting neighbourhood watch initiatives. These efforts reflect his ongoing commitment to public safety, community empowerment, and crime prevention.
